The Cardiovascular Program at Boston Children's Hospital is a world leader in pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery, and has pioneered treatments that have dramatically improved the survival rate for fetuses, infants, children, teens and adults with congenital or acquired heart defects. Cardiologists from Boston Children's Hospital will implant a Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve (TPV), currently in clinical trial at Boston Children's Hospital and two other pediatric hospitals in the United States. This non-surgical treatment restores effective pulmonary valve function and potentially prolongs the functional life of regurgitant and/or stenotic right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduits. Boston Children's has one of the largest pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Programs in the country, performing over 1,500 cardiac catheterization procedures per year.

Cardiac surgeons from Boston Children's Hospital will repair a complex congenital cardiac defect during the live broadcast. The operation will take place in one of three operating rooms at Boston Children's dedicated to cardiac surgical procedures. Each year, the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Program provides surgical care to approximately 1,100 patients, including more than 700 cases of open-heart surgery (that require cardiopulmonary bypass) and 400 closed-cases (that do not require bypass), with extraordinary success rates.
