广泛的髓内病变累及股骨远端和胫骨近端，在T1和PD脂肪饱和序列上可以很好地显示双外周螺旋线。肉芽组织内高信号线和硬化外低信号线伴周围骨髓水肿。胫骨外侧平台可见皮质破裂。

MRI表现与镰状细胞病患者广泛的骨梗死最为一致。

骨梗死是一个术语，用来指骨干骺端或骨干内的骨坏死。坏死是由于不可逆的细胞损伤而导致的一种细胞死亡，显微镜下可通过细胞质（变为嗜酸性）和细胞核（肿胀、固缩、核破裂、核溶解）的改变来识别。骨梗死是缺血的结果，可导致骨结构破坏、疼痛和功能丧失。骨梗塞的原因很多，在传统的X线、CT和MRI上有非常独特的影像学特征。

术语

髓质梗死是一个相当等同于骨梗死的术语，但使用频率较低。该术语也适用于某些涉及骨骺的病例，但不应用于描述软骨下骨坏死，在这种情况下，首选缺血性坏死（AVN）。
