The robotic laparoscopic platform of technology allows the surgeon to perform a spectrum of gynecologic procedures without a formal abdominal incision. The surgery is completed using instruments smaller than a pencil, usually through the belly button where and incision is made smaller than a dime ( 8 mm ). In this way, very small scissors can be introduced to the abdominal cavity to cut away scar tissue also known as adhesions, a procedure called 'adhesiolysis'. Such findings at surgery can be the cause of pelvic pain, and become exacerbated at different times of the menstrual cycle when tension in the pelvis is increased due to uterine enlargement or swelling. In many cases, removal of adhesions may improve the pain or cramping associated with menses, also known as dysmenorrhea, as well as pain with physical activity.
