This is a brief look down the lumen of the iGel second generation supraglottic airway. The iGel has been used as a routine airway, but also much interest has been focused on the ability to intubate via the igel. One unique feature is the mask - a non-inflatable, solid mask made of a thermoelastic gel. One popular myth is that as the mask is warmed by the patient's mucosa it changes shape to fit the hypo pharynx -- wrong! The name comes from the manufacturing process. You can learn more about this in my interview of Dr. Nasir, the igel inventor on AODpi. Never miss another AOD video or AODpi interview by getting the AirwayOnDemand app at iTunes and Google Play |
