This training video describes the microsurgical technique of performing and end-to-side anastomosis with rat femoral vessels of approximately 1 mm in diameter.
A total of 8 interrupted sutures using 10-0 nylon will be placed on circumference of the vessel lumen to complete the anastomosis.
Venotomy is performed for arterial end-to-side anastomosis. Arteriotomy is performed for venous end-to-side anastomosis.
Steps shown in this video include: dissecting the femoral vessel, ligating and cauterizing Murphy's branches, performing arteriotomy and venotomy, preparing the vessel edges for anastomosis, placing interrupted stitches, and avoiding the back wall. Tips & tricks are demonstrated for a successful anastomosis. Patency test will be performed to assess the success of the anastomosis. |
