Nice guy bit by a bug 2 days ago, now with swelling and pain.
no fevers.  Looks like there may be a bit of pus in the area, but this is mostly induration (inflamed tissue).  However, if there is pus, it will get worse, despite antibiotics.  So, sometimes, instead of cutting, I will pierce the area with a large bore needle to allow pus to escape and "depressurize the area."  Therefore when he puts hot compresses on it, it will draw the fluid out.  
He was placed on Antibiotics.
To recall: The treatment for an abscess is drainage, not simply antibiotics
