The ten minute video shows the essential steps of a cemented total knee replacement. The key to long term success of knee arthroplasty is a combination of proper soft tissue balances, along with precise bone cuts. The following should be the aims.
, Adequate soft tissue releases are done to ensure that you have a neutral to valgus knee with no flexion deformity before beginning the first bone cut.
, The distal femoral cut should be in five to six degrees Valgus, in relation to the long axis of the joint.
, The upper tibial cut should be neutral or up to two degrees Varus, with a three degree posterior slope.
, The cut surface of distal femur should exactly match the inner surface of the implant.
, The flexion, extension and mid flexion gaps should be equal.
, Proper cementation.
, Precise patellar tracking after implantation, with or without patellar replacement. |
