There is no 100 % cure for achalasia. In 2016; laparoscopic Heller's myotomy + partial fundoplication is still the best option provided that the surgical risk low & considerable expertise is available. It is only comparable to "repeated" sessions of dilatation, but still surgery offers slightly better chance to control the symptoms. Botox is never a permanent solution & must be reserved for patients who are extremely bad candidates for both surgery or dilatation. POEM on the other hand is an interesting but experimental alternative. It still needs the test of time to become a routine procedure. |
