Technique
Four port laparoscopic approach was used. Selection of sigmoid segment was based on the length of vascular pedicle and superior rectal artery was carefully preserved. Sigmoid continuity was restored with transanal circular stapled anastamosis. Segmental sigmoid graft was brought into pelvis and a transperineal hand sewn anastamosis with vulva was done to create a new vagina. Early complications and functional results were recorded.
Laparoscopic sigmoid colon mobilisation for vaginal construction is feasible. It offers a minimally invasive approach with low morbidity and satisfying mid-term functional results for a rare but disabling condition. |
