Background: Laparoscopic bariatric operations are now a commonplace in a surgical practice. They are followed by a rather particular types of complications and their treatment could be complicated, and may require a specialized knowledge.
This video presents a case of an intraoperative complication and its laparoscopic treatment.
Case presentation: 47 years old female with a BMI of 45 underwent a Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy. The operations course was uneventful besides the fact that at the end of the operation the thermometer probe could not be removed. On inspection during gentle pulling on the probe the stapled transection of the probe was demonstrated.
The adjacent part of the staple line that included the probe was laparoscopically resected and repaired in two layers. Inflation of the stomach with a Methylene Blue dye demonstrated no leak. The postoperative swallow study showed clearly the area of the repair, without a leak. The postoperative course was uneventful. |
