Here is a case where a CT-PET scan performed to stage lung malignancy, turned up a surprise finding in the colon.
A 63 year old man was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of his right lung. He underwent a right VATS lower lobectomy. During the staging process, a FDG-PET scan showed some “hot” areas in the sigmoid colon. He did not have any bowel symptoms. A colonoscopy was performed after the VATS procedure. Eight polyps were found in total and resected: 3 in the proximal colon, all less than 1cm (not shown n the video) and a further 5 larger polyps in the sigmoid colon (see video). The largest of the latter 5 polyps was more than 25mm in diameter. |
