Cerclages are used to help prevent preterm delivery or loss of a pregnancy when a patient has been diagnosed with an incompetent cervix. Some cerclage placements are even more difficult due to prior procedures or congenital anomalies of the cervix. A more involved dissection and higher placement of cerclage, very similar to an abdominal approach can be done via minimally invasive approach, via the vagina and also while the patient is pregnant. This procedure doesn't need general anesthesia, abdominal approach for removal, nor cesarean like the abdominal approach but has comparable efficacy and success. Here is a step by step approach. |
