Retrobulbar intraconal orbital cavernous hemangioma

Cavernous hemangioma is the most common benign retrobulbar intraconal tumor in adult population. Several surgical techniques can be used for this pathology. We demonstrate fronto-orbito-zygomatic craniotomy in a case with retrobulbar intraconal orbital cavernous hemangiomas.

Visual loss and progressive proptosis due to compression on the optic nerve and globe are indications for this type surgery. The tumor was exposed via fronto-orbito-zygomatic craniotomy. Lesion was in close relation with the optic nerve and it extended from globe to the orbital apex. Vascular tumor was extirpated completely with the aid of classic microsurgical tools. Visual acuity increased immediately after surgery.
Retrobulbar intraconal cavernous hemangiomas can be removed successfully and safely through an fronto-orbito-zygomatic craniotomy without any injury to the optic nerve and other oculer nerves. This approach is best for all rerobulbar intraconal orbital tumors.
