LAPAROSCOPIC CONVERSION OF GASTRIC BYPASS TO SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY FOR INTRACTABLE ANEMIA
The patient was a 26 year-old woman, with an initial body weight of 114 kg and a height of 1.63 m (BMI, 43 kg/m2). She received laparoscopic mini-gastric bypass (LMGB) in 2007-10 and post-LMGB BMI was 30 kg/m2. However, intractable anemia was noted during follow-up. Laparoscopic conversion of gastric bypass(GB) to sleeve gastrectomy(SG) was performed in 2012-02 with total operative time,150 minutes and blood loss, 50 ml. The operative procedures included dismantling of gastrojejunostomy, restoration of gastric and intestinal continuity and SG. Post-SG Hb returned to 9.5 mg/dL and BMI was 29.7 kg/m2.
Laparoscopic conversion of gastric bypass to sleeve gastrectomy is technically challenging, but a feasible and safe procedure.
