1) Review of patient's relevant medical history
2) Review of patient's CT scans showing tumor size, location and surgical complexity
3) Review of patient positioning, surgical equipment and operating room layout
4) Reposition nearby anatomical structures to access the kidney
5) Remove fat and fascia (connective tissue) from kidney's surface
6) Locate tumor within kidney
7) Clamp blood vessels to kidney
8) Dissect tumor from kidney
9) Close incision created by removed tumor
10) Unclamp blood vessels; tighten sutures; check for bleeding; apply anticoagulant, patch, and tissue sealant to lessen bleeding
11) Reposition fascia (connective tissue) over kidney
12) Extract the tumor
13) Place tube to drain excess fluid during healing process
